Mating
is a not very bad story actually. At first I cannot really know what it is
talking about. A narration of the narrator seems strange and do not have
anything interesting. It looks like an old woman chatter about herself and
nobody is interested in the endless talking. However, finally there are something
fun happening. She’s falling in love a man Denoon who is an anthropologist. In
her words, Denoon is a brilliant, violently man and never bad. It makes me
think about the saying: people who are fall in love always has low IQ.
The
story happens in Africa. The narrator met a lot of people at first. At the same
time, she know Denoon because of his intelligence for pioneering work on
socioeconomic projects, which puts power back into the hands of native people. So
she want to know him. And later “Z” invited her to a party, she had met Denoon.
And she came to a town named Tsau. In Tsau, she found a village with a high
quality life and this village is succeeding by using African tradition totally.
Female can only get the land from those founder members which are all woman.
But the female should marry a white man. Every woman in that village has their
own name and identity. Tsau changes a lot the mindset of women which is woman
are less powerful than man and should always listen to man. In this society,
things are different. Man cannot have their power of voting. And also they have
to work very hard for their keep. The women begin hiring them as prostitutes,
much to Denoon’s displeasure.
It
seems interesting to me, I will think it more and finish my reading.
